Cataract- boulders turn the river into churning rapids
delta- a marshy region formed by deposits of silt at the mouth of a river
Nome- 36 territorial divisions
dynasty- series of rulers from a single family
pharaoh- king of ancient Egypt, considered a god as well as a political and military leader
ka- eternal life force
pyramid- a massive structure in which pharaohs were buried
maat- justice, goodness, order, and law is to be kept; idea/concept
hieroglyphics- an ancient Egyptian writing system in which pictures were used to represent ideas and sounds
papyrus- tall reed that grows in the Nile delta, used by ancient Egyptians to make a paper like material to write on

Terms + Main ideas

 Delta- A marshy region formed by deposits of silt at the mouth of a river

Pharaoh- A king of ancient Egypt, considered a god as well as a political and military leader

Theocracy- a government in which the ruler is viewed as a divine figure; a government controlled by religious leaders

pyramid- A massive structure with a rectangular base and four triangular sides, like those that were built in Egypt as burial places for old kingdom Pharaohs

mummification- A process of embalming and drying corpses to prevent them from decaying

hieroglyphic- an ancient Egyptian writing system in which pictures were used to represent ideas an sounds

papyrus- a tall reed that grows in the Nile delta, used by ancient Egyptians to make a paper like material for writing

Test Review

textbook notes


Today in class we basically just read in the textbook and took any notes that we thought were important. I like doing this but then sometimes I don't. I like just taking notes that the teacher gives you because you know there important and probably will be on the next quiz/test. But if you take notes yourself then I feel like what if there wrong and not important at all. Other than that, we did not do anything else besides hand in to papers that were graded, which I did good on so that’s good. My day was a pretty decent day and it went by really quick. I had lacrosse tryouts at 5:30-7:30 which was really good besides hurting my back really badly at the end of tryouts. But other than that it was a decent day and week since we had a snow day. Overall yesterday’s class was really good and I hope the weekend last forever.
