  • Christianity arose in Roman-occupied Judea and spread throughout the Roman empire
  • Roman power spread to Judea, the home of the Jews, around 63 BC
  • around 6 to 4 BC a Jew named Jesus was born in Bethlehem
  • taught that god would end wickedness in the world
  • most of all our information comes from the Gospels about Jesus
