GPS and more

Today in class we talked about a couple new things as well as worked on some more maps and locating specific places that you gave us. We talked about the GPS and how it's so helpful to us now. GPS stands for global positioning system and it has three main elements to it. Those key elements are satellites placed in predetermined orbit, tracking stations to monitor and control satellites, and finally receiver that can locate at least four satellites, figure out it's distance from each other, calculate precise location. I personally am very fascinated on the GPS and how it functions properly by telling the exact location and directions of a given place. The last thing that we talked about today in class is that each point on Earth is unique in its own way. Mostly because when someone describes the features of a place it's essential for the building blocks of Geographers to explain similarities, differences, and changes across Earth. Overall, we learned many new things today in class about the GPS and more about maps.
