Christianity is the number 1 religion currently in the world. Theres a total of 2.2 billion adherents and they call themselves christians. The geographic location where you will find most of this religion is Europe, the Americas, and Southern Africa. The main denominations are the catholic church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Protestants, and many many more. The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ but after he died, Pope took over his role as a Christian leader. Christianity's holy book is the New Testament (Bible). Finally, the beliefs of Christians is Jesus being both human and divine and that he was crucified, died, buried, and resurrected.
Islam is the second largest religion currently in the world with a total of 1.5 billion adherents. The people associated with this religion call themselves Muslims. Most Islamic people or Muslims are found in Indonesia, Middle East, and North Africa. The main denominations in this religion are Sunnis (75-90%), Shiites (10-20%). The founder of this religion is Muhammad (570- 632) and the holy book is called the Qur'an (Koran). Finally, the main belief(s) of Muslims is monotheistic, Abrahamic. They also have the five pillars which consist of testimony, prayer, alms- giving, fasting, pilgrimage. Muslims see their purpose in life as serving and submitting to Allah (God), and observing Islamic law.
Hinduism is the third largest religion which consist of 1.1 billion adherents. The people of the religion call themselves Hindus and they can be found in India, Nepal. The holy book in which hinduism has is called the Vedas which is eternal truths revealed to ancient sages; composed on verse form (meant to be sung and easily memorized. Finally this religion does not have a distinct founder- it is a series of intellectual or philosophical points of view, rather than a rigid, strict set of beliefs- oldest extant religion. More of a way of life than a religion.
Buddhism is the next religion we will be talking about. It consist of 500 million to 1.5 billion adherents. They call themselves Buddhist and they can be found in Southeast Asia, China, Nepal, Japan (there are 1.2 billion Buddhists in The U.S ). The founder of the religion is Siddhartha Gautama. The denominations are Tibetan, Zen, Theravada, Amidst. Within the religion there are four noble truths which consist of there is suffering, attachment to desire is the origin of suffering, there is a cessation suffering, and the eightfold path will lead to the cessation of suffering. Besides the four noble truths theres also the eightfold path which includes right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right dedication
The last religion is Judaism which consist of 14-18 million adherents. These adherents call themselves Jews and they can be found in Israel and The U.S. The founder of the religion is Abraham and their holy book is called the Torah (first five books of the old testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers, and Deuteronomy). Lastly, the main beliefs within this religion are ethical monotheism- God is one, and concerned with the actions of human kind. They also have the ten commandments and the 13 principles of faith.
