More about location

Today in class we went over more about location and maps. We learned about how location can be identified in three ways. Those three ways are place names, site, and situation. Places names came from people of prominence, religious, affiliation, physical features, or origins of its settlers. The site is the physical character of a place such as climate, water sources, soil, etc. Finally, situation is just the location of a place relative to other places. The last thing we talked about was region which is an area of Earth defined by one or more distinctive characteristics.  Region is applied to two scales, one being spanning political states and two, constrained within one political state. Something that I learned was that region derives its unified character through the cultural landscape.  It can be a combination of cultural, religious, and physical features.  Overall today in class I learned a lot more about maps as well as location.
