Part 3 of questions


Hellenistic’s- the blending with Egyptian, Persian, and Indian influences to form this new culture
Alexandria- Egyptian city that was the foremost center of commerce and Hellenistic civilization
Euclid- Was a highly regarded mathematician who taught in Alexandria
Archimedes- Studied at Alexandria that estimated the value of pi and the law of the lever
colossus of Rhodes- the statue of the Greek sun- god Helios erected in the city of Rhodes

  1. It made it so that it became and international community, so it had a rich mixture of customs and traditions
  2. The astronomers, Eratosthenes and Aristarchus, used his geometry text that we still use today
  3. They both promote having social unity

In class today we read pages 146-140 in the textbook which was pretty easy because it was only 3 pages which is not bad at all. Other than that, today it is really nice out and I have practice today which hopefully won’t be too bad.
